Baglamukhi Puja

Maa Baglamukhi is the eighth of the ten Dasha Mahavidyas, the great wisdom goddesses of the Tantric tradition. She is known by many names: Pitambara Devi (the golden-robed one), Brahmastra Roopini (she who is the living embodiment of the celestial Brahmastra weapon), Shatrubuddhivinashini (the destroyer of the enemy's intellect), and Stambhini Devi (the goddess who immobilizes all that opposes her devotee). Where other deities bring blessings of love, wealth, or knowledge, Maa Baglamukhi brings something uniquely precious in times of crisis: absolute, decisive victory. She turns every weapon of the enemy back upon itself. She paralyzes falsehood with the force of truth. She silences those who would harm her devotees with the thunder of her divine power. And she restores justice, dignity, and peace to those who surrender to her with faith.

The Sacred Origins of Maa Baglamukhi

The Legend of the Cosmic Storm: Satya Yuga

The most ancient origin story of Maa Baglamukhi comes from the Satya Yuga: the first and most spiritually luminous epoch of Hindu cosmological time. The universe was struck by a catastrophic storm of terrifying proportions, a storm so powerful it threatened to destroy all of creation.

Lord Vishnu journeyed to the sacred Haridra Sarovar and there performed intense austerities, beseeching the supreme goddess to appear. Moved by the sincerity and urgency of Lord Vishnu's prayer, Goddess Tripura Sundari, the third Mahavidya, manifested and brought forth from the golden waters of the turmeric lake her most fierce and powerful form: Maa Baglamukhi.

The Goddess emerged from the Haridra Sarovar resplendent in golden-yellow light, her complexion golden, her garments yellow, her crown blazing. In an instant, she wielded her divine power and brought the destructive storm to an absolute standstill. Order was restored to the universe. From this moment was born her most celebrated power, Stambhana: the cosmic ability to freeze, halt, and paralyze all destructive force.

This is why, to this day, Maa Baglamukhi is described as the protector of the cosmic order

The Pandavas and Lord Rama: Ancient Devotees of Baglamukhi

The great heroes of Hindu tradition have always sought the blessings of Maa Baglamukhi before their most critical moments of trial.

The Pandavas  during their exile are said to have worshipped Maa Baglamukhi at what is now her sacred temple at Bankhandi, Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, to gain strength and power over their adversaries before the great battle of Kurukshetra. According to legend, Bhima and Arjuna worshipped the Goddess here receiving her blessings of invincibility and the destruction of the enemy's capabilities.

Lord Rama, guided by the divine wisdom available to him, worshipped Maa Baglamukhi to receive the divine Brahmastra weapon before his battle against the forces that threatened justice and dharma. The Goddess granted him this celestial weapon symbolizing that her blessings give devotees access to the most powerful forces of divine truth in their times of greatest need.

Who Seeks the Blessings of Maa Baglamukhi?

Maa Baglamukhi's devotees come from every walk of life united by a common need: the need for divine protection, victory, and the silencing of the forces that are harming them.
